Gutter Cleaning in Austin, TX

Gutter cleaning in Austin is simple to describe: the debris comes out, the downspouts get flushed, and water leaves the house the way it should. Live oak leaves and tassels are the main local load. We clean gutters as well as install and repair them, so the visit also shows what is starting to fail. Call (208) 464-4195 for a free estimate.

Book it before the rain, not after. Austin gets about 36 inches a year on NOAA's 1991-2020 normals, but the annual total is not what overflows a gutter. A clog plus one hard burst does that. May is the wettest month, and it arrives right after live oaks finish dropping leaves and tassels.

What should a gutter cleaning service include?

A real cleaning covers the whole path of the water, from the roof edge to the ground. Here is the work we quote.

  • Clear leaves, tassels, shingle grit and sediment out of the gutter by hand
  • Pull debris away from each downspout opening
  • Flush every downspout and confirm that water comes out the bottom
  • Check elbows and extensions for packed debris or crushed sections
  • Note loose hangers, leaking corners and soft spots in the fascia
  • Check where each downspout discharges

If something needs repair, you get that in writing as a separate item. Tell us what you want done with the debris, and we will put it on the quote so nothing is left to assumption.

How often do Austin gutters need cleaning?

Twice a year is the floor. West Virginia University Extension recommends at least twice a year plus after major storms, and more often where storms are frequent. Your trees set the real number.

A starting point. A first cleaning tells us how fast your gutters fill.
ScheduleFitsTiming
Twice a yearOpen lots with few trees close to the roofLate spring and late fall
Three times a yearLive oaks or other trees over the rooflineAfter the spring leaf drop, before summer storms, after fall leaves
After major stormsAny houseWhen it is dry and safe, in addition to your regular visits
With gutter guardsHomes with mesh or screensA check at least once a year. Guards cut cleaning but they do not end it.

Texas A&M's Plant Clinic explains that live oaks are not true evergreens. They drop old leaves as new ones emerge in spring, usually starting around March or April, and the tassels fall around the same time. So in Austin, spring can be a heavier cleanup than fall.

Signs your gutters are due now

The calendar is a guide, and the gutter tells you sooner. Look for these from the ground, during or right after rain:

  • Water spilling over the front edge at one spot
  • A downspout that barely trickles while the gutter above it is full
  • Seedlings or grass growing along the roof edge
  • Streaks on the siding, or a dark line on the fascia
  • A mat of tassels visible at the roof edge after the spring drop
  • Mosquitoes around the eaves during a dry week

Austin's dry stretches hide a clog. July averages 1.93 inches on NOAA's normals, so a packed outlet can sit for months and show itself only in the next hard rain. A phone photo from a safe spot shows more than a ladder climb is worth. A stretch that fills faster than the rest usually sits under a branch or a roof valley. Note that spot for the estimate.

How a gutter cleaning visit runs

  1. Free estimate. We look at the roofline, count downspouts and ask how fast the gutters fill.
  2. Written quote. Scope, debris handling and any return visit go on the page.
  3. Ladder up, debris out. We clear the trough by hand and pull packed material from each outlet.
  4. Flush test. Water runs through every downspout until it comes out the bottom.
  5. Walkthrough. We check discharge with you and put anything that needs repair in writing.

Gutter cleaning cost in Austin

Angi's 2026 Austin guide puts the average gutter cleaning at $187, with most jobs between $122 and $257. It shows small jobs near $81 and large or storm-affected jobs up to $500, and it lists $0.98 to $1.29 per linear foot, higher on a multi-story home. Those are Angi's figures, not our prices. V&V has no published prices, so call for a free estimate and a written quote.

The things that move a quote are linear feet, stories, roof pitch, how packed the debris is, and how many downspouts need flushing. See our longer breakdown of gutter cleaning cost in Austin.

A first cleaning in years takes longer than a routine visit, because old debris packs into sediment. Side yards, locked gates and steep ground all slow the ladder work. Guards change the job too, since panels may come off to reach what slipped under. Mention these on the call.

Why clean gutters before the next storm?

  • Foundation. WVU Extension notes clogged gutters lead to damage around windows, doors and the foundation. Water coming over the lip lands right at the slab. On expansive clay soil, you want it 6 to 10 feet out.
  • Fascia. Wet debris sitting in a full gutter keeps the wood behind it damp. A soft board is how a gutter repair starts.
  • Mosquitoes. Austin Public Health lists clogged rain gutters among the places to check for standing water.
  • Embers. City of Austin wildfire guidance tells residents to clear leaves and debris from gutters, because dry leaves up there can catch fire.

Debris rules and licensing around Austin

Texas has no statewide roofing contractor license, and no state gutter license was found, so ask any cleaner for proof of insurance and references. Austin's rules show up in what happens to the debris. The City's curbside composting guide accepts leaves in the green cart, with extra in paper lawn-and-leaf bags, and it does not accept plastic. City Code Chapter 6-5 prohibits discharging garbage and other waste into the stormwater system, so do not hose gutter sludge to a street drain. Ask where a crew puts the debris, too. Those rules cover Austin. Other cities and HOAs set their own.

What gutter cleaning will not fix

A clean gutter that still misbehaves has a different problem. Do not pay for repeat cleanings to solve these.

  • Water sitting after the debris is gone. That points to slope, and gutters need about 1/4 to 1/2 inch per 10 feet. See sagging gutter repair.
  • Drips at corners or seams. That is a seal, not a clog. See leaking gutter repair.
  • Overflow in hard rain with clear gutters. You may need more downspouts. Add those before assuming the gutter is too small.
  • A cleaning every few weeks. That is the point to price gutter guards.

Why have gutter installers clean your gutters?

  • We know what a problem looks like. Installers spot pulled hangers, poor slope and tired seals while the gutter is open and empty.
  • You get it in writing. The quote is line-item, and it is free.
  • Repairs need no second company. Our services cover gutters, guards, cleaning and repairs.
  • Communication. Gautam T. wrote that Victor responds to messages and solves questions.

Cleaning is on our Google profile, but no review describes one yet. The three below come from install and replacement jobs. They speak to punctuality, messages and how the crew leaves a property.

These reviews show how the crew communicates and treats a property.

“…He responds to all your messages and solves your queries. I have talked with many other vendors before deciding to go with V&V. They were prompt on time, commitment and professional in their work.”
Gautam T., Google review, 2 years ago
“…From the initial quote to the final installation, everything was handled professionally and efficiently. The team showed up on time, explained what needed to be done, and worked quickly without cutting corners.”
Avijit R., Google review, April 2025
“Omar and his coworker replaced all our old gutters, hauled off the old gutters and said to call if we had any issues at all. Very polite and efficient.”

Common questions

How much does gutter cleaning cost in Austin?

Angi's 2026 Austin guide reports an average of $187, with most jobs between $122 and $257. That is a third-party figure, and it is not our price. A two-story home, a packed gutter or a storm cleanup will move it. We give a free estimate and a written quote for your house.

Do you clean gutters you did not install?

Yes, cleaning is a service in its own right, and it does not depend on who hung the gutters. If we find a problem with the existing system, such as poor slope or a failed corner, we will note it and quote it as a separate item. You can decide about that later.

Do gutter guards mean I never need cleaning?

No. Guards cut cleaning, but they do not end it. Micro-mesh blocks leaves, but fine grit and oak tassels can still sit on top or settle in the trough. In Austin, plan on at least a yearly check. See our guards page if you want to compare the types.

Can you clean gutters while it is raining?

Not safely in a storm, and we would rather not try. Wet ladders, lightning and wet roof edges are all reasons to wait. A light mist is a different story from a thunderstorm, so we decide on the day. If the gutter is overflowing right now, call and tell us what you see.

When is the best time to book a cleaning in Austin?

Late spring is the priority. Live oaks shed old leaves and tassels around March and April, and May is Austin's wettest month, so clearing gutters in that window matters most. Book a second visit after fall leaves come down. Homes under heavy tree cover may need a third.

Will you tell me if my gutters need repair?

Yes. A cleaning is a good time to see the gutter empty, so we note loose hangers, leaking corners and soft fascia. You get that in writing as a separate item, without pressure. Some of it can wait a season, and we will say which items do and which do not.
