Replacement is also your chance to fix what the first install got wrong. Many Austin-area homes date from around 2000 (Census ACS 2020-2024) and still have original builder-grade gutters, often sized and spaced for the builder's budget. So do not just copy what is there. Check the gauge, the downspout count and where the water ends up before you sign anything.

When is it time to replace old gutters?

One leak is a repair. Replacement starts to win when you see several of these at once:

  • Leaks at many joints, or repairs that keep coming back
  • Corrosion, splits, or thin metal that has kinked
  • Long runs that have lost their slope
  • Hail or wind damage along most of the house
  • Fascia stains along the full length of a run
  • Gutters at the end of the 20 to 30 years that national contractor tables list for aluminum (not Austin data)
  • Overflow that clearing and extra downspouts have not solved

Age of the house is a fair first clue here. A home from about 2000 is now some 26 years into that 20 to 30 year range, so a builder-grade run can be near the end of its working life and still look fine from the yard. Sight along it for waves, and note whether past repairs keep landing at the same corners.

If only one or two of those apply, look at gutter repair first. It may buy you years.

What a full replacement includes

A replacement swaps the whole drainage line, not just the metal you see from the street. Taking the old run down exposes fascia that has been hidden for years, so we check it before anything new goes up. Downspouts get planned again from scratch instead of copied from the builder's layout. Anything outside the standard scope, such as board work or guards, gets its own line on the quote. You approve that scope in writing, and the walkthrough checks it after cleanup.

  • Tear-off. Old gutters and downspouts come down, with haul-off stated on the quote.
  • Fascia check. Soft spots are marked before new hangers go in.
  • New seamless runs. Formed at the house in the gauge, size and color you approved.
  • Hangers and slope. Set into solid wood, falling toward each outlet.
  • Downspouts and discharge. Count, placement and the ground-end route reviewed.
  • Guards, if you want them. Priced as their own line.

Gutter replacement in Austin: profiles and metal

For most homes this is a short list. K-style is the familiar flat-backed shape with a decorative front edge. The numbers below are working standards, and your quote will state the exact gauge, size and color.

ChoiceWhat it isGood fit
5-inch K-styleThe standard residential profile; pairs with 2x3 or 3x4 downspoutsMost single-family roofs
6-inch K-styleLarger channel; pairs with 3x4 downspoutsBig or steep roof areas, long runs
Half-roundRounded profileHomes where the style calls for it
BoxSquare, higher-capacity profileScope confirmed on the estimate
.027 inch aluminumThe common professional standard and the minimum we hangMost replacements
.032 inch aluminumHeavier optionAdded stiffness against dents and bending

Roll-forming is the part that makes it seamless. A portable machine feeds flat aluminum coil, shapes the profile and cuts each length at the house, so seams fall only at corners and end caps. Customers have picked from many colors, including a copper color. If you want true copper or steel stock, ask us when you call, since availability varies.

Should the new gutters be bigger?

Maybe, but check the downspouts first. Add downspouts before assuming the gutter is too small. Overflow often comes from water that cannot get out fast enough, and a downspout costs far less than a whole size change.

  • Spacing. We plan about one downspout per 30 feet of gutter, rather than the common 40-foot spacing.
  • Downspout size. The baseline is 1 square inch of downspout per 100 square feet of roof. A 2x3 (6 square inches) drains about 600 square feet, and a 3x4 (12 square inches) about 1,200.
  • Slope. Our working standard is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch per 10 feet along the entire length.
  • Discharge. On clay soil, aim for 6 to 10 feet from the foundation and never under 5 feet. A splash block alone does not reach 6 feet.

Those numbers matter here because Austin's rain comes in bursts. The City of Austin has recorded more than 5 inches in several hours, and May alone averages 5.13 inches (NOAA 1991-2020). Downspout installation is often the upgrade that pays off most. If your roof is large, compare 6-inch gutters.

How we remove old gutters and hang the new run

  1. Free estimate. We measure linear feet, check the fascia and mark downspout locations.
  2. Written line-item quote. It lists gauge, size, color, downspout count and any guards.
  3. Approve and schedule. There is no sales pressure. Compare it with other quotes if you like.
  4. Remove the old system. Old gutters come off and the fascia gets a closer look now that it is exposed.
  5. Roll-form on site. New runs are formed to length at the house and hung at the correct slope.
  6. Walkthrough. After cleanup we check downspout discharge with you.

Timing depends on the house and the schedule. Reviewers describe installs finished within hours and work done the day after a quote, when the schedule allowed. Those are past jobs, not a promise, and we will give you an honest date when you call.

What does gutter replacement cost in Austin?

Your price comes from a written quote after a free estimate. For third-party context on gutter replacement cost, Angi's 2026 Austin seamless gutter guide shows an average job of $1,128 and a typical range of $883 to $1,373. Angi also lists $4 to $10 per linear foot for local installers on one page and $5 to $10 on another, while a national cost listing for Austin shows $7 to $15 per linear foot installed. Those sources disagree because each measures a different job, so do not average them.

  • Total linear feet, corners and stories
  • Gauge and profile
  • Downspout count and size, and any extensions
  • Removal and haul-off of the old system
  • Fascia repair, if the estimate finds any
  • Gutter guards, if you add them

Roofline shape moves the number on Austin homes. Every inside and outside corner adds a miter and a joint to seal, and a two-story wall or steep pitch takes more ladder work than a one-story ranch. Fascia can change a job after tear-off, so ask how each bidder prices board work before you sign.

New gutters on an old house: fascia and gutter checks

An older home needs a look behind the gutter before the new one goes up. Hangers need solid wood, so soft spots should be dealt with first. See fascia and soffit repair. We confirm that scope on the estimate.

If your house is inside Austin's jurisdiction, know the city's Wildland-Urban Interface code. Austin's guide lists noncombustible gutters and downspouts with leaf guards in Zones A, B and C, and says existing buildings do not need to be changed unless a code official finds a serious safety hazard. Vinyl guards typically do not qualify; metal mesh does. This rule is Austin only, and properties wholly in the ETJ are not covered. Check the Interactive WUI Code Map or email wuicodeinfo@austintexas.gov. Elsewhere, check local rules.

No City of Austin source names gutter replacement. The Work Exempt from Building Permits list covers wood fascia, trim and soffits but not gutters, so confirm with Development Services, and note that exempt work must still meet code. Texas has no statewide roofing contractor license and no state gutter license was found, so verify insurance and references with any bidder. HOAs and other cities keep their own rules.

Why V&V for gutter replacement

Vann S. wrote that Omar and a coworker replaced all the old gutters, hauled them off and said to call with any issues. Mitchell F. sent measurements, picked the copper color and had gutters up within hours the same week. That was a past job, not a promise. Avijit R. says the team explained what needed to be done and worked quickly without cutting corners.

  • Haul-off. One reviewer notes that Omar and a coworker replaced all the old gutters and hauled them away.
  • Formed at your house. Lengths are cut to the roofline, not pieced together.
  • Owner involved. Victor runs the company and his son Omar leads installs.
  • A real color choice. Customers describe many options to match the house.
“Omar and his coworker replaced all our old gutters, hauled off the old gutters and said to call if we had any issues at all. Very polite and efficient.”
Vann S., Google review, 3 years ago
“I was able to send them measurements, pick from a variety of colors. We went with the copper color. They came out same week and got them put up with in hours. The crew was timely and curious. The price was fair.”
Mitchell F., Google review, March 2025
“…From the initial quote to the final installation, everything was handled professionally and efficiently. The team showed up on time, explained what needed to be done, and worked quickly without cutting corners.”
Avijit R., Google review, April 2025

Caring for a new system is simple. Clean it at least twice a year and after major storms, as West Virginia University Extension advises, and more often under oaks. We replace gutters from a South Austin base across the area, including Cedar Park, Buda and Hutto.

Common questions

How long does gutter replacement take?

It depends on linear feet, height and how much fascia work turns up once the old gutters are off. One reviewer describes gutters going up within hours. That is a past job. Call us and we will give you a realistic date and a sense of how long the crew will be at your house.

Do you haul off the old gutters?

Yes, removal is part of our replacement process, and one reviewer notes that the old gutters were hauled off after the job. Confirm it on your written quote so there is no question about it. If you want to keep any pieces for your records, such as after a storm claim, say so before the crew starts.

How long do new aluminum gutters last?

National contractor tables commonly list aluminum gutters at 20 to 30 years, though that is not Austin data. Actual life depends on gauge, slope, cleaning and storm exposure. Heavier stock resists damage better, and gutters kept clean do not carry as much weight. We hang .027 inch as our minimum, with .032 as the heavier option.

Should I replace gutters before or after a new roof?

After, in most cases, since roof work can disturb the gutter edge. Coordinate the two if you can, so the gutter goes on a finished roof line. We do repeat gutter work for a roofing company, so this order is familiar. If the roof is years away and the gutters are failing now, replace them and plan for it.

Do I have to keep the same gutter size?

No. The quote can change size, profile or downspout count. A 5-inch K-style gutter pairs with 2x3 or 3x4 downspouts, and a 6-inch pairs with 3x4. We usually add downspouts before moving up a size, since a slow outlet causes much of the overflow people blame on small gutters.

Does my Austin home need noncombustible gutters?

Usually not. Existing buildings generally do not need updating, Austin's WUI code page says, unless a code official finds a serious safety hazard. New construction in Zones A, B and C calls for noncombustible gutters and downspouts with leaf guards. This applies inside Austin's jurisdiction only. Check the Interactive WUI Code Map, or contact the city, before you plan a project.

Can gutters be replaced on just one side of the house?

Yes. We can quote one wall or one run if the rest of the system is sound. Older aluminum fades, so the new length may not match the other sides perfectly, and we will show you colors first. If the same failures are spreading around the house, the quote can price both options so you can compare.
