V&V Seamless Gutters covers Bastrop County from South Austin. In normal traffic, the city of Bastrop is about 30 minutes out and Elgin about 35. The Census Bureau estimates 118,908 residents in July 2025, up from a 2020 base of 97,229, on about 888 square miles of land. Bastrop is the county seat. One thing sets this county apart: Texas Parks and Wildlife calls the Lost Pines the westernmost stand of loblolly pine in the United States, cut off from the East Texas pines by about 100 miles of post oak woodland.
Lost Pines needles, sandy uplands and the Colorado River
Most of the county is rolling upland with sandy and loamy soil, according to the Handbook of Texas. Post oak is the main tree in those woods, with the Lost Pines in an east-central band near the Colorado River. Silts and clays line the river and its tributaries. Elevations stay low, between 400 and 600 feet.
Pine changes gutter work. Needles are thin and long, so they slip through coarse screens, mat together and block an outlet well before a gutter looks full. Sandy soil soaks up water but it also washes, so a hard stream from a downspout can cut a trench beside the slab. A splash pad or extension solves that. It is a different problem from clay, and the county has both.

The Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey puts the county's median year built at 2001, and the 2025 population sits about 22 percent above the 2020 base. A house from that year on its original gutters has a run about 25 years old.
How the county changes from Elgin to Smithville
- North, around Elgin. The Handbook puts blackland prairie with waxy clay in the northwest corner. Treat this like Austin's east side: 6 to 10 feet of discharge from the foundation.
- Center, around Bastrop and Cedar Creek. Sandy uplands under pine and post oak. Needles, guards and erosion at the outlet are the talking points.
- Southeast, toward Smithville. River silts and more sandy ground, with some blackland along the county's central southeastern border. We read each lot, since soil changes quickly here.

Services that suit Bastrop County pine and clay
- Micro-mesh gutter guards
Fine metal mesh made for loblolly needles that coarse screens let through. Needles still collect on top, so plan a rinse at least twice a year under the pines around Bastrop and Cedar Creek.
- Gutter cleaning
Clearing matted needles and outlets on homes under the Lost Pines. Pine litter blocks a drop long before the trough looks full, and the Forest Service lists clearing it in its wildfire checklist.
- Downspout unclogging
Needles plug the drop first, so water backs up along the eave. Long needles fold into the elbows and hold there, which is why a gutter can look clear from the ground and still overflow.
- Downspout installation
Discharge past Elgin clay, or onto a pad where sandy soil would wash. Around Elgin the aim is 6 to 10 feet from the foundation, and on the sandy uplands it is a stream that cannot cut a trench.
- New gutter installation
Whole-house runs for newer homes around Elgin and rebuilt homes in the pines. The aluminum is formed on site to fit each wall, with seams only at corners and end caps.
- Gutter replacement
For aging runs on Bastrop and Smithville homes. With the county's median home dating to 2001, many originals are reaching the 20 to 30 years that national tables list for aluminum.
From our Google reviews, on leaf guards and concrete splash pads:
“Victor did a great job in installing the leaf-guard on the gutters. They are very respectful & responsive.”
“Just amazing craftmanship by Victor and his team to install gutters at our home. The end to end process in dealing with Victor was very smooth and transperant. Victor promised to give us the concrete water splash pads for free as well and I am really happy with the service.”
Why pine litter matters after the 2011 fire
The Bastrop County Complex fire started September 4, 2011, burned 34,068 acres and cost 1,667 houses, by the Texas A&M Forest Service count. The Forest Service says embers can be one of the greatest threats to a home, sometimes traveling more than a mile, and its checklist says to routinely inspect and clean gutters of debris, pine needles included, and to consider covers that cut buildup. Covers reduce what collects, though they do not end cleaning. Austin's WUI code is an Austin rule, so check local rules for your address.
Fire came back in October 2015, when the Hidden Pines Fire started about four miles north of Smithville and burned more than 4,500 acres.
Reaching Bastrop by SH 71 and Elgin by US 290
SH 71 is the straight shot east from our base to Bastrop and on toward Smithville, and US 290 reaches Elgin. SH 95 and SH 21 cover the rest. At the estimate we measure linear feet, check the fascia and mark downspout locations, and we look up at what is overhead. The written quote lists gauge, size, color, downspout count and guards, so you can compare it. After install, we walk the job and check each downspout's discharge.
Park Road 1C, Lake Bastrop and Bluebonnet lines
Two state parks anchor the pines. Bastrop State Park and Buescher State Park are joined by Park Road 1C, about 12 miles through the Lost Pines. The Lower Colorado River Authority runs McKinney Roughs and the parks on Lake Bastrop. Homes around them live under the same canopy.
The county's wildfire protection plan, revised in 2009, named The Colony and Tahitian Village as Firewise communities. If your subdivision has a Firewise group, ask what it wants done about roof and gutter debris.
Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is based in the county, so its line may be what reaches your eave. Show us where it lands before a ladder goes up.
Local notes for the Lost Pines
Elgin is listed on our Google profile, and the rest of the county sits along the same roads east of Austin. Parts of the county are unincorporated, and rules differ between the cities and county land, so ask locally before work begins. Rebuilt homes and newer subdivisions may have an HOA with color rules.

Bastrop County gutter questions
What gutter guard works under loblolly pines?
Fine metal micro-mesh is the one to look at. Needles are thin enough to slide through coarse screens, and mesh keeps them out of the trough. Expect them to collect on top, so it still needs a look at least twice a year. Guards cut cleaning but do not end it, and we will show you what that means on your roofline.
Do gutter guards lower wildfire risk in Bastrop County?
No, not on their own. They can help by reducing the debris that collects, but no guard makes a house fire-safe. The Texas A&M Forest Service tells homeowners to routinely inspect and clean gutters, and to consider covers that reduce buildup. For your property's risk and any local rules, ask your fire department or county office. We can quote the guards.
Do you go out to Smithville?
Yes, Smithville is in Bastrop County. Call with the address and we will tell you honestly when a crew can get there. The city of Bastrop is about 30 minutes from South Austin in normal traffic, and Elgin about 35. Smithville sits further down SH 71, so we would confirm the drive and a date on the phone before setting up your free estimate.
