Gutter Service in Travis County, TX

Gutter service in Travis County depends on which side of the Balcones Escarpment you live on. West of it, oak and cedar debris and fast runoff off thin soil do the damage. East of it, blackland clay makes downspout discharge the job that matters most. We work from South Austin, about 10 minutes from Del Valle and about 50 from Lago Vista in normal traffic.

V&V Seamless Gutters covers Travis County from our South Austin base. In normal traffic, Del Valle is about 10 minutes away, West Lake Hills about 20, Pflugerville about 30 and Lago Vista about 50. The county holds 1,389,670 people by the Census Bureau's July 2025 estimate, across about 994 square miles of land, with Austin as the seat. What sets it apart is the escarpment that splits it. Two houses here can need opposite fixes, so we start by reading the lot.

Limestone hills, blackland clay and the Colorado River

The Colorado River crosses the county from northwest to southeast, and the Handbook of Texas places the Balcones Escarpment as the divide between drier land to the west and wetter land to the east. Elevations run from about 400 to 1,300 feet.

Texas A&M AgriLife describes three kinds of ground here. West of I-35, thin soil sits on limestone, and rain runs off fast. East of I-35, deep black and reddish clays shrink when dry and swell when wet. Along river and creek bottoms, mostly east and southeast, sandy loams drain quickly over a clay hardpan.

Oak leaves and cedar litter gather fastest under heavy canopy west of the escarpment.

Each ground type asks something different of a gutter. Austin's normal rainfall is 36.3 inches a year (NOAA 1991-2020), with May the wettest month, and it tends to arrive in bursts.

Housing age adds a third variable. The Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey puts the county's median year built at 2002, so a house from that year on its original gutters is carrying a run about 24 years old. Trees add a fourth. The February 2023 ice storm damaged 10.5 million trees, by the Austin-Travis County after-action report, and the city collected more than 170,000 tons of debris. A limb that landed on an eave can leave a bent run or a loose hanger that only shows in the next hard rain, so look along the gutter under your biggest oaks.

How conditions change from Lake Travis to Del Valle

  • Hill Country side. Around Lakeway, Bee Cave and Lake Travis, juniper, oak and scrub drop steady debris, and steep lots shed water quickly. Clean outlets and guards count most here.
  • I-35 corridor. Central Austin and Sunset Valley sit near the seam, where soil can change within a neighborhood. Original builder-grade gutters are common, and median year built in the Austin area is about 2000.
  • Blackland east. In Pflugerville, Manor and Del Valle, the fix is usually at ground level. We aim for 6 to 10 feet of discharge from the foundation, and never under 5.

Lake Travis parks, power lines and Austin Water rebates

The county's own parks mark where the ground turns rugged. Pace Bend Park sits in the far west with more than nine miles of Lake Travis shoreline, and Hamilton Pool Preserve and Reimers Ranch Park are out in the same limestone country. Homes near them share the steep lots and juniper.

Electric service changes by address. Austin Energy covers the city, Pedernales Electric Cooperative reaches the western hills, and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative serves part of the east. Whoever your provider is, find where the service line meets your eave and point it out at the estimate, before anyone sets a ladder.

If Austin Water sends your bill, its rebate list includes rainwater harvesting for a rain barrel or cistern, based on storage capacity. Read the terms before you buy, since tanks over 500 gallons need pre-approval, and ask us on the call about sending an outlet to the barrel.

Gutter services Travis County homes call for most

  • Micro-mesh gutter guards

Fine metal mesh for the oak tassels and cedar litter on the county's western hills. It is the guard type to ask about inside Austin's WUI zones, where the city calls for noncombustible material.

  • Downspout installation

Added outlets and extensions that carry water past shrink-swell clay east of I-35. In Pflugerville, Manor and Del Valle, the target is 6 to 10 feet of discharge from the slab.

  • Gutter replacement

For builder-grade runs on Austin-area homes from the 1990s and 2000s that keep leaking. The old run comes down and leaves with us, and the new one is formed on site to fit the wall.

  • Gutter cleaning

Twice a year at least, and more under heavy canopy near Lake Travis and Barton Creek. Cedar litter and oak tassels reach the outlets first, so clearing the drops matters as much as the trough.

  • Sagging gutter repair

Rehanging runs loaded down with wet leaves and pulled loose by storm wind. Long eaves under the county's big oaks carry the most weight, and a fallen limb can knock a run out of slope.

  • Storm and hail repair

For runs dented or loosened by hail, ice or limbs. The September 2023 hail storm hit both sides of the Travis and Williamson county line, so check corners and hangers after any big storm.

From our Google reviews, on the two jobs that split this county, guards and downspouts:

“They did a great job on installing gutters and leaf guards on my house. Their work was seamless. Very professional would recommend to anyone”
Diana H., Google review, 3 years ago
“Victor and his team did a great job on my gutter project. They came by the same day for a quote, provided the work the next day, completing the job on time and on schedule. Installed a new gutter, new downspout, and redirected a couple other gutters over to my rain barrels.”

How a visit works across Travis County

We come from South Austin, so SH 71, I-35, US 183 and SH 130 put most of the county within reach. Lake Travis jobs take the long way out on SH 71 or RM 620. We measure linear feet, check the fascia, mark downspout locations and walk the lot to see where water can go. You get a written line-item quote, with no sales pressure. After install, we clean up and check each downspout's discharge with you.

Local rules, including Austin's WUI code

Austin, Pflugerville and Lago Vista are all listed on our Google profile. Rules vary by address, so check before you assume. Austin's Wildland-Urban Interface code applies only inside the city's full and limited purpose jurisdiction, not across the county and not to properties wholly in the ETJ. Inside it, the city's guide lists noncombustible gutters and downspouts with leaf guards in Zones A, B and C, which is why metal mesh matters. Outside Austin, check with your city or the county. Many subdivisions also have an HOA, which may have a say on color.

Travis County gutter questions

Does the Austin WUI code apply to my house in Travis County?

Yes, but only if the property is inside Austin's full or limited purpose jurisdiction. It does not apply to properties wholly in the ETJ, and it does not cover other Travis County cities. Check the city's Interactive WUI Code Map for your address. Existing buildings generally need not update, but a large roof replacement can change that. Elsewhere, ask your local office.

What is different about gutters on the west side of Travis County?

Debris and speed. Oak and cedar shed into gutters most of the year, and water runs fast off steep lots with thin soil over limestone. Outlets clog and runs overflow in short bursts. We look hard at guards, downspout count and where each outlet lands, because a retaining wall or slope can send the water somewhere you do not want it.

How soon can you get to a house in far western Travis County?

It depends on that week's schedule, so call and we will tell you honestly. Lago Vista is about 50 minutes from our South Austin base in normal traffic, and Lakeway about 35. Past jobs have sometimes moved quickly, with quotes and installs a day apart, but that depends on the schedule. We set a real date with you on that call.
