We serve Comal County from South Austin, with New Braunfels about 45 minutes down I-35 in normal traffic. This is one of the longer drives we make, so ask when you call how a visit fits the schedule. The Census Bureau estimates 209,166 residents in July 2025, up from a 2020 base of 161,449, which is nearly 30 percent growth in five years, on about 560 square miles of land. New Braunfels is the seat. What sets the county apart is its water: Comal Springs, the Guadalupe River and Canyon Lake all shape where people build.
Guadalupe River, Canyon Lake and Hill Country limestone
The Handbook of Texas places the county on the divide between the Blackland Prairies and the Balcones Escarpment. The eastern quarter sits below the escarpment at 600 to 750 feet, with loam over a clay subsoil. The northwestern three-quarters climbs from 750 to about 1,500 feet, with shallower, variable soil, live oak, mesquite and Ashe juniper.
The Guadalupe runs through the center, held back at Canyon Lake, which was impounded in 1964. This part of Texas is nicknamed Flash Flood Alley for good reason. The US Army Corps of Engineers records the lake cresting its spillway in 2002 and reaching a record 950.32 feet. A gutter has nothing to do with that scale of water. It handles the small, nearby problem: a roof that dumps water on a steep, shallow-soil lot.

The homes are recent. The Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey puts the county's median year built at 2008, so a house from that year on its first gutters has a run about 18 years old. Ashe juniper and live oak shed over hillside roofs, and shallow soil over rock gives a downspout stream little room to soak in. That combination means outlets clog faster and discharge travels farther than it would on deep loam.
Gutter services for Comal County slopes
- Downspout installation
Outlets aimed away from retaining walls and neighbors on steep Hill Country lots. Around Canyon Lake and Bulverde, rock often rules out a buried line, so a surface route and a pad do the work.
- 6-inch gutters
Added capacity for large roofs and metal roofs that shed water fast. On Hill Country homes, add downspouts first, then size up if the run still tops its edge in a cloudburst.
- Gutter guards
Less cleaning under juniper and live oak near Canyon Lake. Metal mesh keeps litter out of the trough on hillside roofs where a ladder is hard to set, though it still needs a look.
- Gutter repair
Fixing leaks and overflow before they soak into fascia on lake and rental homes. Owners who live elsewhere can send photos first, then review the written quote before anything is scheduled.
- Gutter cleaning
Twice a year at least on lots under juniper and oak, and after any big storm. On a steep Canyon Lake lot, a clogged outlet sends a short cloudburst over the edge and down the wall.
- Metal roof gutters
A metal roof sends rain to the eave quickly, so the gutter has to catch a faster sheet of water in a Hill Country cloudburst. Size, outlets and fastening all go on the written quote.
From our Google reviews, one customer who sent measurements first and one who added a working downspout:
“I was able to send them measurements, pick from a variety of colors. We went with the copper color. They came out same week and got them put up with in hours. The crew was timely and curious. The price was fair.”
“Added functional gutter spout while integrating AC drain pvc within spout giving it a great look from house and adding another functional gutter. Very professional and quick service!”
The trip down I-35 to New Braunfels
Our crews run down I-35 from South Austin. Canyon Lake and Bulverde add time on FM 306, SH 46 or US 281, so we confirm the drive when you call. The estimate covers linear feet, fascia condition and downspout locations, plus a look at where water can safely leave the lot. The written quote spells out gauge, size, color, downspout count and guards. On install day the run is roll-formed on site, then we walk it with you after cleanup.

Guadalupe River State Park, NBU and the county engineer
Guadalupe River State Park sits on the Comal and Kendall county line at the north end of Park Road 31, with about four miles of river frontage. Hill Country homes nearby share its limestone and juniper.
Who you call depends on the address. In town, New Braunfels Utilities provides electric and water to most of the city, by the city's own facilities document. The county also holds the cities of Bulverde, Garden Ridge and Spring Branch, so confirm which one covers your address. On county land, the Comal County Engineer's Office makes floodplain determinations under the Flood Damage Prevention Order, and it advises calling when you buy property or start construction. If your gutter job grows into a drain line or grading near the Guadalupe, ask that office first.
How the county changes between Bulverde, Canyon Lake and New Braunfels
- West, around Bulverde and US 281. Shallow soil over rock limits what can be buried. Water tends to run across the surface, so outlet placement and splash pads carry more weight.
- North, around Canyon Lake. Hillside homes with juniper and oak overhead. Keep outlets clear, and send discharge away from retaining walls and downhill neighbors.
- East, along I-35. Newer subdivisions around New Braunfels sit nearer the prairie side, where the clay subsoil makes foundation discharge a bigger concern. We aim for 6 to 10 feet.
Heading further up I-35, the same corridor runs through San Marcos and the rest of Hays County, so a Comal property manager with homes in both can list them on one call.

Permits, HOAs and river-area checks
Comal County is a mix of city limits and unincorporated land, so rules depend on the address. Check with New Braunfels or the county before you assume. Austin's WUI code is an Austin rule, so ask locally what applies here. Subdivisions around New Braunfels and Canyon Lake may have HOA rules on exterior color. If your home sits near the Guadalupe or Comal rivers, look up your floodplain status with the county, since that is a separate question from gutters.

Comal County gutter questions
Do you really come out to New Braunfels?
Yes, and it is one of our longer drives, about 45 minutes from South Austin in normal traffic. Canyon Lake and Bulverde take more time. Call with the address and we will give you an honest date for the estimate. If you can send photos and rough measurements first, that helps us plan the visit.
Where should downspouts go on a steep Hill Country lot?
Downhill, and away from anything water can undermine. On a slope, the outlet should not send a stream at a retaining wall, a neighbor, or a bare bank that will wash out. Rock close to the surface often rules out a buried line, so we usually plan a surface route with a pad or extension. We mark each spot on the estimate.
Can gutters help after flooding near the Guadalupe?
No. Gutters do not address river flooding. They move roof water only. After a flood, check the fascia and downspouts for damage, and clear any debris from the outlets. If the house took water, deal with safety and your insurer first. Once that is settled, we can look at the gutters and write up what needs repair.
